DNA Kaleidoscope

Abstraction of the double helix seen from above, hand painted on a rotatable disc and set within a box that holds three kaleidoscopic view-finders. Looking through each view-finder and rotating the disc creates abstract patterns, colourful animating shapes and forms.
Users are invited to look through the viewfinders whilst rotating the large disc insert. The kaleidoscope effect abstracts the painted image, an artistic representation of a DNA double helix as seen from the end and the more complex structure of molecules it is formed of than a normal diagram may display.

A concluding piece for an investigatory project looking at patterns in nature.
